Day 1 : Arrive at airport Marrakech Menara, reception, and transfer to riad Omar.
Overnight on half-board. 10 to 15 minute drive from airport.
Day 2 : After breakfast, load baggage and depart via minibus or grand taxi depending on the number of persons in the group. Enjoy the 5hr (in total) drive on paved roads through the great plain Elhaouz, and stop along the way for lunch in a restaurant or picnic in Azilal while continuing to take in the wilderness away from the hub-bub of the city. Then we continue our journey towards Ait Mhamed, the Azourki summit, the Tizi n’lissi pass to the altitude of 2600m and then descend down to the village Zhaouit Ahansal (1900m altitude) and overnight in the lodge there. 230km covered.
Day 3 : Rise and pass through Aqqa n’Ilissi through the shade cast by the juniper trees, with fields of blue hills, exposed coal, and robust foliage to camp Asme Souk. Asme Souk is the intersection of many nomadic tribes for market every Tuesday, near Lzourar Lake behind the Azourki mountains. It is called the nomadic crossroads. Overnight at the encampment, 2300m above sea level. 4 – 4.5 hour walk.
Day 4 : A walk of about 3 hours awaits you after breakfast, reaching the lake plateau Lzourar to 2500m where we will come across and meet nomads who lives in caves and under their stark black tents in the huge beautifully green landscape of the plateau. It lays between two large peaks over 3000m each- a place you’d be sorry to miss. This is the meeting place for the nomadic people of Ait Atta of Jeberl Saghro and shepherds of Ait Bougemez valley. Camp at 2500m at Lake Lzourar.
Day 5 : Descend into the valley of Ait Bougemez (also known as the Happy Valley) where you will discover several villages of ancient clay architecture. We follow the path that winds through fields and villages to arrive to the village of Imelghass after a 6 hour walk. Overnight at the lodge “Tawada” 1870m above sea level.
Day 6 :After loading the mules, press on with our team, starting the adventure for 5 – 5.5 hours through open fields, terraced crops, crossing clay villages and giant stork nests in this beautifully rich landscape. Lunch at the village of Ait Said, and after a nice two-hour rest we will walk through the sheepfolds of Arous. Camp at 2300m after the 20-21km journey.
Day 7 : Depart for the 5 hour hike to the plateau Tarkdite, also called the ‘foot’ of the majestic summit of 4071m Mgoun mountain after mounting the first pass of Arous to 3400m. Camp at 3000m. 18km.
Day 8 : Optional ascent of the summit Mgoun at 4071m, the second tallest summit in all of Morocco after Toubkkal, but more difficult. Then descend to Assif Oulilimt, camp at 2600m. For those who do not choose to ascend Mgoun, hike around the mountain with the team to camp. For the ascension, 9-10 hours of hiking. 30km.
Day 9 : Small hike of 3.5 to 4hrs to the discovery of hoodoos and nomads in caves. Camp at the source of Aflafal at 2400m. 16 km.
Day 10 : Discovery of a very beautiful valley scattered with the poor who are lost among the mountains (called Valley Ouzirimte). Picnic under the walnut trees and continue while the weather isn’t too chilly. Camp at Imi n’Irkte at 2000m. 6.5hrs. 23 to 24 km.
Day 11 : Sneakers must be provided here for walking through rivers and through the magnificent gorges of Mgoun. Truly spectacular sights, and everyone will play and splash water. 5.5 hour hike to the village Tighanimine. Overnight at 1800 m. 18 km.
Day 12 : Cross through village amongst the circling gorge system, a very sublime landscape. 5.5 hrs to achieve a great camp on a cliff near the village Ighrem Aqdim at 1600m. Drink in the panoramic view noticing any activity at night throughout Oued Mgoun. 20 to 21 km.
Day 13 : Here the valley begins to widen after the release of the gorges of Mgoun. From here, early in the Valley of Roses, are the most beautiful gardens in the Atlas. The village Boutarard is established here with the red earth. Camp near the water tower of the village at 1600 m. 16 km.
Day 14 : Our last stretch of walking, 45 minutes from the neck Timstiguite rise to 2000m above sea level and gaze about the panoramic view of the chain Mgoun and the last mountain chain (called Djebel Saghro or Anti-Atlas) before the immense Sahara. 45 minutes of descent, then transfer via motor vehicle from Valley of Roses Kelaat Mgouna, capitol of roses and largest oasis of Skoura, Ouarzazate. Tichka Pass at 2260m and descend to Marrakech. Overnight at riad Omar with half-board. 310 km, 5 to 6 hr drive.
Day 15 : Transfer to the airport depending on departure time and flight back home.
